SUMMARY:Sheriff's Ride Morning Gathering
DESCRIPTION:SHERIFF’S RIDE – MORNING SEND-OFF – SATURDAY 5 SEPTEMBER 2026 \n\n\n\nWe are pleased to announce that the historic Sheriff’s Ride will once again take place on Saturday 5 September 2026. \n\n\n\nTo mark the occasion\, a morning gathering will be held outside the Guildhall from 9:15am\, featuring a performance by the Lichfield Three Spires Morris Dancers\, followed by speeches from the Sheriff of Lichfield\, Cllr Andrew Fox\, before the ride officially begins. \n\n\n\nPlease note\, a mounted ride will take place on the day\, organised by a sub-committee of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association. Further details can be found at: https://www.sheriffoflichfield.org.uk \n\n\n\nThe Sheriff’s Ride is a tradition dating from 1553 when Queen Mary’s Charter separated Lichfield from Staffordshire\, making Lichfield ‘a City and a County’ with the right to appoint its own Sheriff. The Charter commanded the Sheriff to make a perambulation to inspect and enforce the city boundary each year. This year marks the 473rd Sheriff’s Ride.
